LIVE DESIGN WOODSTOCK LIVESTYLE TOUR

Routing: Leave the city on De Waal drive, exit Roodebloem towards Woodstock. Pass Ruth Prouse Art School & King James Design Agency. Recreate furniture made from discarded junk is just across the road Visit to the Old Biscuit Mill, home to a range of South Africa’s most talented, innovative designer, artists and delicious farm stalls. The Bronwell and old hotel revamped into a boutique Mall with fashion, furnisher, art and an eatery. Woodstock Foundry home to various creative studios and O.Live visual merchandising school is worth a peep. LIVE DESIGN CAPE POINT TOUR

In the Old Building of the internationally acclaimed Groote Schuur Hospital you find the Heart of Cape Town museum. On a guided tour you will come to hear how Professor Christian Barnard, a South African cardiac surgeon performed the first successful human heart transplant at the hospital in 1967. On our weekday tour you will be taken to Montebello Design Centre in Newlands, a non profit development project promoting and supporting good local design and using craft for job creation. On weekends you will visit Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden. Old Boyes drive will take you past Kalk Bay, Simonstown and visit to Boulders Beach penguin colony. Cape of Good Hope Nature reserve and Flying Dutchman funicular will whisk you closer to the top lighthouse with panoramic views over the Atlantic Ocean. Read more…

LIVE DESIGN WINELANDS TOUR

Spier’s environmental and social initiatives are many and varied, including ways to reduce water usage, solid waste recycling and organic vegetable garden. Enjoy a wine tasting along the Stellenbosch wine route. Babylonestoren offer an informative tour in their 8acre vegetable garden. Every one of the over 300 varieties of plants in the garden is edible and it’s grown organic where possible. Another wine tasting along the wine route included before returning to Cape Town.

LIVE DESIGN TOWNSHIP TOUR

On your tour you will visit 3 different community projects where you can interact with the local people at these projects and find out about the inspiring work they do. The stops vary from female prisoner rehabilitation and refugee education to urban agriculture, youth development, care for the elderly, care for children and orphans, HIV/AIDS, care and education for disabled people, arts and culture and rural development, to mention a few. Stop at VPUU (Violence prevention through Urban Upgrade) in Harare/Khayelitsha and witness one of many safe spaces which was created for local residence during day and night time and Mitchells Plain/Freedom Park where you will see the award winning Design Indaba 10×10 Low-Cost housing project.
